Great LAN Games?? 2010/02/11 21:21 Karma: 1
Give us your input! What games would all of you like to see played at a LAN party you attended? What would keep your interest, and allow you to have a good time? Also, within certain games that have multiple game modes, what modes interest you the most? What about game mods? Let's get some discussion going...

I for one think we change games too quickly and don't allow for people who want to play but have yet to get a game installed. (Yes, this happens frequently to me, because I'm always un-prepared.) Also having multiple games going on at the same time would be helpful. (COD & CS for example) Yes, it is difficult to do, but I think its worth it. I have seen LAN Game trackers and feel that an in-lan website showing all the games people are playing would be helpful and encouraging.

I also think its time for 3 Corridor to DIE. A lot of people at the LAN's don't get it or are left out because there are simply not enough spots for everyone to play. (I can't imagine the blow back I'm going to get for that statement!, LOL)

I would like to see a little bit more focus on some FPS. There have been a few new games released including the new BF, I think this will help bring a little spark back to the events.

I also firmly believe that WoW should not be banned, but lagged, make playing impossible, but simple tasks like checking in game mail and chat possible. WoW is the LAN killer. Everyone I think would agree with that.

I would like to see Flatout 2 played. It's only $9.99 on steam and weeell worth the dollar per fun factor. I used to have lan parties and some nights it was the only game played. However for a demo derby game it does help to have a controller and I highly recommend using one. I also like Trackmania but that is better played with keyboard for the tight handling.

Other thoughts... the new Battlefield or even the old BF2 since they have new patches and quite a few of us own or could get a copy... L4D2, Wolfenstein 2 and Counter-Strike Source, even Quake III Arena CTF is still a blast at LANs... even go as far as a freeze tag Q3A mod. So many options for that game and maps galore. It will never die.

For those that need files during a lan a 15 - 30 min advanced announcement should be plenty of time to get everyone on the same page. At the large lans having a projector with information about a server or where to get a file for example was a great idea.

Modern Warfare 2 - Such an awesome game. I want to play some hardcore mode but don't feel like I can trust online play to do it. I also want to coop some of the special ops missions.

Bioshock 2 - I want to try the multiplayer, haven't done it yet.

Modern Warfare - Pretty much everyone has it installed already, so it should be ready to go.

Armagetron - An excellent time killer.

Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory - Its free, but I haven't tried it on Vista or Win 7.

I know there are several games that others want to play that I don't particularly enjoy, like War 3 and Left 4 Dead, but to each his own. I can always play a single player game during that time.

The killer right now is that few people are updating their hardware to take advantage of many of the new games. Also, most people aren't buying any of the new games and are just waiting for someone to crack them and when there is a "crack" it doesn't work half the time.

If enough people are interested in Flatout 2, I will pick it up before the 19th, but want to hear a few more voices before I do.

I second Sinjin's statement about MW2. It truly is a fantastic game...as long as you can keep the server hacker-free. I just played it online for two hours tonight, and saw evidence at least 1 (some matches more) person using wallhacks and aimbots in each match I played. It's getting ridiculous, but I keep coming back for more.

I'm also looking forward to the new Battlefield game. Already have it pre-ordered. And as always, I'm always down for any type of Battlefield game. The only one I don't have is Vietnam.

As for Flatout2, it sounds like great fun, and I'd be willing to pick it up too. I actually sent a message to Valve tonight asking if they would consider a quantity discount on it if we could get enough to buy it. I'll report back with their reply, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd like to see us play some more Trackmania. With it being free, it creates no problems for people that aren't interested in buying games. Plus it can be fun as hell. The same goes for Quake Live, but I don't believe that many others share the same appeal for Quake as I do.

Other than that, I'm up for just about anything. I've actually been searching for some new free games to play, but most of them don't look too appealing. There's a couple of HL2 mods available that look slightly promising, but we'll just have to try them to see.

Spider, sorry bro, but I highly doubt that Warcraft 3 is going anywhere anytime soon. It still has a large following at our events. We can just continue to emphasize other games as well when a War3 match is going to try to keep the action moving.

I have had Flatout 2 for a long time and I posted about the game like a year ago and nobody ever said anything.
We do Trackmania every so often but it is a rarity.
I have all the UTs but I can't play 3 for some reason.
I would love to see more actual RTS games being played. I know a lot of people enjoy and have Dawn of War and some of the expansions. Anything less than Dark Crusade isn't as fun. Soulstorm just adds a little more to the game.

Another game that could supplement 3cor is League Of Legends.

It's DotA which is like 3cor but it was much more popular.

+ 1 for quake live. its free system requirements are lax and its hugely fun, both for experienced quake players and those new to it. its easy to just pick up and play. the internet requirements might be a bit of a problem not sure though.

Yeah, I've been playing it as well. Fantastic game. It's just a shame that LAN play isn't supported.

i don't understand everyone abandoning LAN play if i had known there was no LAN play before i bought it, that would have been a instant "free" game.
